For most of my life, I thought the sunset with no clouds was kind of… well…”ho-hum”

A blessing in the sunset of the clear day...

A blessing in the sunset of the clear day… Ash Wednesday 2014

The rainbow has a special significance as a symbol of peace from God, given to Noah after the rain. Noah spent 6 months dealing with the rain and floods. From Genesis 7…24 The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

So… How special is it, that on a clear day, the implicit promise of the colors of the rainbow show in the sunset of a clear day?

Listening to God can give some special insight! May He bless you richly this lenten season…

What Are People Around the World Searching For in the Bible?

John 1

John 1:12 (from Inspirational Bible Verses.com – click on the picture for the link to their website)

For today’s post, my eye caught this entry from BibleGateway.com…It seemed to me that Christians would be very similar in their “bible culture,” for want of a better term.

John 1, one of my favorites (A copy of John 1:1-18 is at the bottom of this post), isn’t in our list in the USA. It is in China, Brazil, Russia, and Japan. Nigeria has mostly Psalms.

Take a look at these… I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

John 1 (NIV)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcomeit.

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God andis in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

Traveling by Train… peaceful, beautiful, enjoyable, and inspiring

Mountain Pass on the Zephyr

Mountain Pass on the Zephyr

Traveling by train is one of the most enjoyable trips. It allows me and Jim to see sights that can’t be seen traveling by car. We did this trip in August of 2012, heading out to California on the Zephyr from Lincoln. This is one of my favorite pics that we took from the window of our cabin. It graces my Facebook page. We ended up in Sacramento, and took the Coast Starlight to Los Angeles.

I believe next time we’ll take a lot of photos from the Starlight. The coastline is beautiful, and the little towns along the way were redolent with flowers. After our stay in LA, we left Fullerton for Arizona, where we stayed to visit with my Aunt and Uncle. We stayed at the La Posada in Winslow. What a fabulous trip that turned out to be. Our trips always allow us to sit back and talk (no, gossip) about the lives of our characters. We discuss who they’re going to be, and what adventures we’ll be taking them on next. Hmmm… it might be time for a trip to the cabin for Alisa…
